Christ's Death A Punishment For Our Sins

Isaiah 53 gives clear and irrefutable proof that Christ's
death was a substitutionary punishment and payment for the
guilt of our sins, not just an instruction or example on how
we should live:

1) That's what the text literally says and means:

(Isaiah 53:5 KJV) But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our
peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

*Wounded* (2490): to bore, pierce kill (Strong's). That's
just what they actually and literally did to Christ on the
cross.

*Bruised* (1792) : to crush. That's just what they actually
and literally did to Christ on the cross.

Chastisement (4148): from the root 3256 ("to chastise",
literally (with blows)); discipline, chastening, correction.
That's just what they actually and literally did to Christ on
the cross.

"Stripes" is literally a black and blue "welt". That's what
someone gets when they're being lashed. (Strongs) That's just
what they actually and literally did to Christ on the cross.

(Isaiah 53:5 NASB) But He was pierced through for our
transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The
chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His
scourging we are healed.

Scourging means a "stripe", "blow", or "bruise" (NASEC)

(Isaiah 53:5 MKJV) But He was wounded for our transgressions;
He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our
peace was on Him; and with His stripes we ourselves are
healed.

ibid.

And what was all of this?

2) The purpose of Christ's punishment was to make Him an
"offering for our sin", not just an to be an instructing
example of how to live:

Isaiah 53:10 KJV
(10) Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him
to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin,
he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the
pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

That was Christ becoming an "offering for sin". The
whole OT sacrificial system is in view, with the person laying
their hand on the animal, then slaying it as their substitute,
to bear the guilt of their sin. This is not talking about how
Christ merely gave us some instruction on how to live
(although that is included), but Christ bearing the guilt of
and being punished for our "sins".

--
Have you heard Christ died for our sins, and God raised Him
from the dead? Did you know God saves you from hell and
gives you eternal life through faith in this finished work alone,
not your merits (Jn. 3:16; 1 Cor. 15:1-3; Eph. 2:8-10; 2 Thess.
1:8-9)? This is so man cannot boast, and God alone gets the
glory (Eph. 2:8-9).
